Haiti is the 4th poorest,
3rd hungriest,
and the most water poor country in the world.

Why Haiti

Dr. Gosser and wife, Dineen visit SMM

Solidarity
– We believe we are one human family whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic and ideological differences..

Excerpts from Partners in Progress (PIP) Newsletter by Dr. Richard Gosser…

The easing of political tensions and the reduction of violence following Haiti’s February presidential elections have ushered in a new Springtime of HOPE for Haiti. As a partner, St. Margaret Mary’s has a renewed opportunity to nurture the growth of sustainable development in rural Haiti!

The growth of hope and the progress of solidarity was unmistakably evident during my recent visit to Fondwa, Haiti. The bakery, equipped with a new and more fuel efficient brick oven, was poised to open this month. Work was progressing well on the Makaya Water project with the phase of reforestation and water-flow assessment scheduled for completion on May 1, which is “tree planting day” in Fondwa when each year the entire community forms a massive “konbit” to transfer seedlings from nursery to hillside during the rainy season. Thanks to support from the Ryan memorial Foundation and new partnerships with St. Margaret Mary Church and Holy Trinity School the St. Antoine School is beginning to sprout a third story and finishing work on the kindergarten classrooms will be completed before the next term begins.

Together we will reap a harvest of progress and continue proving that the organized poor can solve the problems they face if the have the tools they need! Together we are making their world, and ours, a better place!
