January 11th
The Baptism of the Lord

1st Reading: Isaiah 55:1-11
Responsorial Psalm Isaiah 12; 2-3, 4bcd, 5-6
2nd Reading: 1 John 5:1-9
Gospel: Mark 1: 7-11

Today, we celebrate Jesus’ baptism.  It was Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River, by John, that began his saving mission.  It is through our baptism that Jesus’ mission becomes our mission.  We are baptized by both water and the Spirit, which begins our new life as adopted daughters and sons of God.  Our baptism is not just a ritual, something that is done to us, but is a turning point for our lives.  It enables us to begin a new relationship with the Spirit, and God, and others.  Spend some time this week reflecting on how, as a member of the Body of Christ, you are able to carry out the saving mission of Christ.  Rejoice in the loving arms of the Lord.
